Bad Lit Friends is a writing podcast that barely knows what it’s doing.
And that’s the point. Hosted by fiction writers Meagan Thompson-Mann and Kirk Rafferty, this show is equal parts craft discussion, existential despair, ego massage, and wildly unsolicited hot takes.
Each episode blends honest conversations about the creative process, the publishing industry, and the messiness of trying to create highfalutin’ art, with hot-and-occasionally-right takes, and a dash of internet drama. If you've ever felt like you're writing into the void, you're not alone — grab a seat, bring your worst draft.
Listen. We’re not promising it’s good.
But we are promising we’re bringing at least our B game. Maybe our D game if we’re recording on Friday after work.
Co-hosted by (currently) unpublished debut authors Kirk Rafferty and Meagan Thompson-Mann, Bad Lit Friends is a podcast by writers, for writers, about (surprise!) writing. About querying and publishing, about bookish gossip and general writerly nattering on.
We’re not experts at craft or marketing or anything. We don't claim to know what we're doing, but we're like our target audience of writers in similar stages of the publishing game: a bit clueless, a little wracked with imposter syndrome, slightly overwhelmed, but bursting with words.
There are plenty of writing podcasts where the hosts know what they're talking about, where you can find a wealth of experience and expertise. We are not that podcast. Think of Bad Lit Friends as a support group for writers who haven't quite made it yet, but are giving it their best.
Also we smell good, though you'll have to imagine that.
